Refunds & returns
Digital keys work differently from physical goods, and pretending otherwise causes disputes. This is exactly what you can and cannot get back, and why.
The short version
If a key has not been redeemed, you can return it within 30 days for a full refund. If a key does not work, we replace it or refund it, however long it takes to find that out. Once a key has been redeemed against a Microsoft account it cannot be resold, so it is refundable only if it is faulty.
We would rather fix the problem than take a return. Contact us first — most refund requests turn out to be activation problems that take five minutes to solve.
Unredeemed keys: 30 days
A key you have not yet entered anywhere can be returned for any reason within 30 days of purchase. You do not need to justify it.
- Email us with the order number and confirm the key has not been redeemed
- We verify the key is still unredeemed at Microsoft's end
- We approve and process the refund to the original payment method within 2 business days
We check redemption status because a refunded key that has already been redeemed costs us the full license, so this step is not negotiable.
Keys that will not activate
If a key fails to activate and the fault is ours, you are covered. Send us the order number and the exact error code, and we will:
- Diagnose it — a large majority of activation failures are edition mismatches or the wrong Microsoft account, both fixable without a new key
- Issue a replacement key the same business day if the key itself is at fault
- Refund you in full if we cannot supply a working replacement
This applies beyond the 30-day window. A key that never worked was never a key.
Redeemed keys
Once a key has been redeemed against a Microsoft account, the license is permanently bound to that account and cannot be resold, recovered or transferred back to us. Redeemed keys are therefore not refundable unless they are faulty.
This is stated at checkout as well as here, because it is the single most common source of disputes in this trade and neither of us benefits from it being a surprise.
If you bought the wrong license
It happens — the plans are genuinely confusing. If the key is unredeemed, return it under the 30-day rule and buy the right one. If you tell us what you actually need, we will point you at it first.
If you have already redeemed the wrong license, we cannot refund it, but tell us anyway. There is often a route through Microsoft's own support, and we will help you find it.
How to start a return
Email support@nimbuslicensing.com with your order number and one line on what went wrong. No form to fill in, no ticket number to quote back at us.
We acknowledge within one business day and tell you what happens next. If a refund is due, we process it to the original payment method within 2 business days; how long the money then takes to appear is up to your bank or card issuer, typically 5 to 10 business days.
Your statutory rights
We sell to customers in the United States only. Nothing in this policy takes away any right you have under federal or state consumer law, and where state law gives you more than this policy does, state law applies.
The United States has no general cooling-off period for online purchases, so the 30-day window above is ours rather than something the law requires. We would rather give you a clear rule you can hold us to than the legal minimum.
Problem with an order?
Tell us what happened before starting a chargeback. It is almost always faster, and we would rather fix it than lose you.
